Where We Are
The Province of Ontario is the second largest province in Canada by area, covering 1,068,582 square kilometers (412,582 square miles) with a population of over 10 million people.
Approximately 81% of all Ontarians live in urban areas, primarily in the largest cities of Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Ottawa, Etobicoke and London. Of these, all but Ottawa, Hamilton and London are located in the Greater Toronto Area. The cities of Brampton and Mississauga are located within the Region of Peel.
The policing jurisdiction of the Peel Regional Police adjoins and contains much of the area known as the Greater Toronto Area (or GTA). The Region of Peel is located within the GTA, on the shores of Lake Ontario. The GTA contains some 5 million citizens, approximately 1 million of whom live in Peel.
The Region of Peel is a diverse area, containing the large urban centres of Mississauga and Brampton, as well as the relatively expansive and sparsely populated Town of Caledon, which is policed under contract by the Ontario Provincial Police.
