Mayor Susan Fennell
Susan Fennell has been a member of Brampton Council since 1988 and is currently serving her third year as Mayor being first elected in 2000. During her tenure as Mayor, the City of Brampton has become debt free, won the title of 2006 National Champion for Communities in Bloom and became the first municipality in the Greater Toronto Area to be designated as a World Health Organization (WHO) International Safe Community.
Mayor Fennell was appointed to the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board on July 5, 2005. The Mayor is currently a member of the national Board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), the FCM Big City Mayors Caucus and served 3 terms as the Chair of the FCM Infrastructure and Transportation Committee. Mayor Fennell is currently the Chair of The FCM Ontario Caucus. In addition, she is a member of the Large Urban Mayors Caucus of Ontario, the Board of Directors for the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance and a number of other advisory boards and panels.
In 2006, Mayor Fennell was inducted into the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame in the Builder Category for her key role as founder and Commissioner of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL). The NWHL created in 1998, is the premier league in the world for women’s hockey.
Mayor Fennell is a graduate of the University of Toronto (Hon. B. SC. in Environmental Science). Mayor Fennell was honoured for her volunteer community service by Rotary International with its highest award, the Paul Harris Fellowship and is also a recipient of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal and the Lord Baden Powel Medal. |
