(BRAMPTON) – Ms. Cheryl Jamieson, a member of the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board, was elected President of the Ontario Association of Police Services Board on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the 47th Annual Meeting of the OAPSB, held in Cornwall, Ontario. Ms. Jamieson is the first member of the Peel Board to serve as President of this organization.

“It’s both an honour and a significant responsibility to represent members of the OAPSB from across the province,” says Ms. Jamieson. “These are critical times for our membership, whether they represent municipal police services or have contracted with the Ontario Provincial Police for local police needs.”

Ms. Jamieson says her priority will be to ensure the OAPSB continues its strong relationship with the Ontario government and other partners, such as the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Association of Ontario and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

“We are very proud of Cheryl’s election and will be very supportive of her during her term as President”, says Emil Kolb, Chair of the Peel Board. “While Cheryl represents the entire province, there’s no doubt in my mind that some of the issues we have in Peel, common to other jurisdictions, will be top of mind as she meets with provincial representatives.”

A Brampton resident, Ms. Jamieson is a provincial representative on the Peel Police Services Board, having been appointed on December 15, 2004. While she is the first President of the OAPSB, a number of Peel Board members have served on the OAPSB Board previously, including Mr. Jim Murray, current Vice-Chair.
