For Immediate Release

Brampton – Peel Regional Council today appointed members to the Police Services Board for the next term of Council. As outlined in the Police Services Act, three members of the Board are represented by members of Regional Council. In a unanimous vote, Regional Chair Nando Iannicca, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown have been elected to serve the 2022-2026 term of Council.

“On behalf of the Board, I’d like to congratulate Chair Iannicca and Mayor Crombie for remaining Board members and welcome Back Mayor Brown,” said Police Services Board Chair Ron Chatha. “Having such strong voices from the Region of Peel and the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton will ensure the Board’s focus on Community Safety and Well-being, human rights and innovation and technology will support Chief Duraiappah and Peel Regional Police to be the most progressive and innovative police service in Canada.”

Regional Chair Iannicca and Mayor Crombie were both appointed as Board members in December 2018 and will continue in their capacity as Board members until the end of the current 4-year term of Council. Mayor Brown was also appointed in December 2018 and served as a Board member until January 2021. For the past 2 years, the representative from Brampton was Regional Councillor Martin Medeiros, whose term ends with the reappointment of Mayor Brown, who will serve until the end of the 4-year term of Council.

“I would like to thank Councillor Medeiros for his service to the community as a Police Services Board member,” continued Chair Chatha. “During his 2 years on the Board, significant accomplishments occurred including the appointment of Deputy Chief Mark Dapat and the establishment of the Board’s Governance and Human Rights Committee. None of this would be possible without Martin’s leadership on the Board.”
